Heidelberg Engineering and RetinAI Expand Ophthalmology Offering with Selected RetinAI Discovery® for Clinics Solutions

HEIDELBERG, GERMANY / BERN, SWITZERLAND – September 28, 2026 – Heidelberg Engineering and RetinAI (Ikerian AG) today announced that they will make RetinAI Discovery® for Clinics available through Heidelberg Engineering’s direct global sales organization, expanding its ophthalmology offering within the EssilorLuxottica MedTech ecosystem. The move builds on the established collaboration between Heidelberg Engineering and RetinAI following EssilorLuxottica's acquisition of RetinAI (Ikerian AG) in October 2025.

This expanded collaboration applies specifically to RetinAI’s clinical offering. RetinAI will continue to serve its industry (pharmaceutical, CROs, Reading Centers, etc.), research and academic customers directly, and the corresponding RetinAI solutions for those markets will remain available through RetinAI.

For clinical customers, the collaboration creates a directly integrated connection between Heidelberg Engineering's diagnostic imaging portfolio and RetinAI's clinical capabilities in ophthalmic data management, connectivity, and AI-supported analysis. Direct sales activities are underway with Heidelberg Engineering in selected European locations, and through its established direct international sales organization, Heidelberg Engineering will eventually broaden access to RetinAI Discovery® for Clinics for its customers.

Customers will be able to experience RetinAI solutions for Clinics alongside Heidelberg Engineering technologies at EURETINA 2026, providing an opportunity to explore how best-in-class advanced imaging, connected data, and AI-supported analysis can work together across the ophthalmic workflow.

Connecting Imaging, Data, and AI

RetinAI Discovery® provides a unified environment for accessing and navigating ophthalmic patient data, including OCT, fundus, and other imaging and data formats powered by AI. The platform supports centralized image and data management as well as vendor-neutral connectivity and interoperability. Discovery CONNECT® enables automated synchronization of imaging data from supported devices, helping to reduce manual steps between image acquisition, data transfer, and clinical review.

Depending on the individual solution and its regulatory status, RetinAI’s suite of AI models can also provide AI-supported retinal image analysis and quantitative insights, including retinal layer and fluid segmentation and quantification, biomarker analysis, and longitudinal assessment of imaging data. RetinAI Discovery® also supports secure case sharing and connected workflows, including tele-ophthalmology applications.

For Heidelberg Engineering customers, a particularly relevant opportunity is the connection between SPECTRALIS® imaging and RetinAI's data and AI environment. Bringing high-quality diagnostic imaging into a connected environment for data management and analysis can help clinicians make greater use of imaging information while supporting more efficient clinical workflows.
