HEIDELBERG, GERMANY/LONDON, UK – 05 OCTOBER 2026 – Building on a successful collaboration that began in 2024, Heidelberg Engineering and international eye care charity Orbis are expanding their global ophthalmic education partnership in 2026, with four additional expert-led webinars delivered through Orbis’s Cybersight telemedicine and e-learning platform.
Throughout 2024 and 2025, the partnership delivered eight expert-led educational webinars through Orbis's award-winning telemedicine and e-learning platform, Cybersight, attracting more than 4,300 attendances from eye care professionals in more than 150 countries.
The four-part 2026 program brings internationally recognized experts together to share the latest advances in ophthalmic imaging, artificial intelligence (AI), diagnostics and surgical practice. The first two webinars of the year attracted more than 2,100 live attendances from more than 110 countries, reflecting strong international interest in specialist ophthalmic education.
Nine in ten people with vision loss live in low- and middle-income countries, where access to specialist eye care education and professional development opportunities can be limited. Through Cybersight, Orbis provides eye care professionals with free access to expert training, clinical knowledge, mentorship and telemedicine support, regardless of their location.
By combining Heidelberg Engineering's expertise in ophthalmic imaging with Orbis's global education network, the partnership supports eye care professionals in developing diagnostic skills, strengthening clinical decision-making, and delivering high-quality patient care within their own healthcare systems.
Reflecting the shared commitment of Heidelberg Engineering and Orbis to advancing clinical education, this year's program explores:
Eye care professionals can register for the upcoming webinars and watch the on-demand cataract surgery session through Cybersight.
"Millions of people live with avoidable vision loss because specialist eye care knowledge isn't always accessible,” said Lawrence Sica, Associate Director, Cybersight Growth & Engagement, Orbis International. “Through Cybersight, we're helping close that gap with free education, mentorship and clinical expertise for eye care professionals worldwide. We’re grateful to Heidelberg Engineering for their renewed partnership and the momentum we continue to build upon. Together we're investing in people, strengthening skills, building local capacity and improving patient care around the world.”
”What makes this collaboration so meaningful is the ability to share specialist knowledge far beyond the walls of any one clinic or teaching institution,” said Tosh Vadhia, Heidelberg Engineering Ambassador for Orbis. “Through Cybersight, a single educational session can connect colleagues across countries and healthcare systems, giving them practical insights they can apply in their own clinical settings. Continuing this program gives us the opportunity to learn from one another, strengthen ophthalmic expertise, and support better eye care in communities around the world.”
Orbis has been transforming lives through the prevention and treatment of avoidable blindness for over four decades. With a network of partners across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, the charity is working to make eye care available everywhere, for everyone, so that no one has to experience the consequences of avoidable blindness and sight loss.
