Shawn C. Kavoussi, M.D., Founder, Texas Retina Center, Blanton Eye Institute, Houston Methodist Hospital (USA) shares how he utilizes imaging as a dynamic assessment and educational tool. He demonstrates how to identify vitreous opacities using IR video feature, explains ways to improve patient education with imaging that more accurately demonstrates the etiology of visual disturbance(s) and uses it to enhance pre-operative decision making. Dr. Kavoussi is a board certified, fellowship-trained retina specialist. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Yale University School of Medicine and Yale-New Haven Hospital System. Following residency, Dr. Kavoussi returned to Houston where he completed a two-year vitreo-retinal surgery fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine. After several years at a large group practice, in June 2020 he founded a solo retina practice in the Texas Medical Center where he currently practices today. Dr. Kavoussi has served as an investigator in industry-sponsored clinical trials and has published extensively in peer-reviewed ophthalmic literature. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, the Houston Ophthalmological Society, and the Harris County Medical Society. He currently serves on the Board of Scientific Advisory Trustees and Grants Review Committee for the Retina Research Foundation.
