Questions to ask your PACS or EHR Vendor

Whether you already own a PACS or EHR system or are in the process of purchasing one, here are a few questions to ask the vendor if you want to understand how well the system will support SPECTRALIS^® DICOM images.

Q1. Is the system a DICOM Service Class Provider (SCP) for “Modality Worklist Find Service”?
If the answer is YES, the system can transfer patient demographics and order information to SPECTRALIS.

Q2.Is the system a DICOM SCP for “Encapsulated PDF Storage”?
If the answer is YES, the system can receive and store SPECTRALIS reports.

Q3. Is the system a DICOM SCP for “Ophthalmic Photography Image Storage”?
If the answer is YES, the system can receive and store SPECTRALIS fundus images.

Q4. Is the system a DICOM SCP for “Ophthalmic Tomography Image Storage”?
If the answer is YES, the system can receive and store SPECTRALIS OCT scans.

Q5. Can the images (for question 2, 3 and 4) be displayed by the system for review?
Note: Some systems can receive and store these images, but cannot display them.
