Heidelberg Engineering HighTech at the Capanna Margherita (4554m)

Researchers from the University of Tuebingen are investigating the effects of hypoxia on the visual system with a high altitude study at the Capanna Margherita located 4554m above see level.

The highest hut in Europe, the Margherita hut, is placed at the Signalkuppe, a peak in the Pennine Alps on the border between Italy and Switzerland.
At this hut the Tübingen High Altitude Ophthalmology Study Group, consisting of PD Dr. Florian Gekeler, Dr. Gabriel Willmann, Dr. Dominik Fischer and Andreas Schatz will conduct their research from August 28th to September 12th 2010. During this time the team will characterize and investigate the effects of high altitude hypoxia using cutting edge technologies and equipment and will study the changes on a functional and quantitative level.

Heidelberg Engineering is supporting the Tübingen High Altitude Ophthalmology Study Group with a SPECTRALIS HRA+OCT, the Heidelberg Retina Tomograph (HRT) including the Rostock Cornea Module (RCM) and the Heidelberg Retina Camera (HRC).

Heidelberg Engineering wishes good luck and all the best for this project.
